David is a serial entrepreneur who founded Ionics Freshwater and the Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre (SBRC). He is a director of Williams Industries and serves as Chairman of Williams Caribbean Capital and Doyle Sails Barbados.

David Staples identifies and develops new business opportunities, with a particular focus on infrastructure and enterprises operating within the sustainable economy. He has played a leading role in introducing public-private partnerships and non-recourse project-finance structures to Barbados.

David has led the development of businesses and major projects across renewable energy, water, wastewater and solid-waste management. He has also contributed to the development of Millennium Heights, Apes Hill, PriceSmart, the FirstCaribbean International Bank headquarters at Warrens, the Spring Garden desalination plant and the Sustainable Barbados Recycling Centre.

He is Executive Chairman of Williams Caribbean Capital, Chairman of Doyle Offshore Sails in St Philip and Chairman of Concordia Manufacturing in the United States.

David holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California and master’s degrees from Washington University in St Louis and Harvard University. A citizen and long-term resident of Barbados, he has lived in the country since 1983.

David is also an accomplished competitive sailor. He has won numerous championships throughout the Caribbean and represented Barbados in sailing at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.
