Barry O’Brien is a serial entrepreneur, investor, and diplomat, with senior leadership roles across the Caribbean, Ireland, the UK, and the United States. He is the founder, CEO, and Chairman of multiple businesses spanning investment, renewable energy, financial services, infrastructure, and packaging.

Barry serves as Honorary Consul of Jamaica to Ireland, acting as Jamaica’s diplomatic representative in Ireland and supporting bilateral trade, investment, and commercial relations.

 

Caribbean & International Roles

In the Caribbean, Barry is Co-Founder and CEO of Williams Caribbean Capital, an impact investment platform focused on renewable energy infrastructure and the issuance of certified green bonds to fund commercial and utility-scale solar PV projects. He is also Co-Founder and Chairman of SCG Growth Partners, a fintech and growth-capital business.

Barry is a Board Director and co-owner of VIP Attractions, which operates airport lounges and tourism media assets in Jamaica, and is a co-founder and shareholder of BCDL, a venture partner of General Accident Insurance in Barbados.

Ireland & UK

In Ireland, Barry is Chairman and Co-Founder of IFP Investment Limited, a privately owned investment business. He is also Co-Owner and Chairman of Acel Energy, a renewable energy company specialising in co-owned commercial solar PV projects.

Barry serves as Chairman of Argo Development, an international architectural and design firm with operations in Ireland, the Caribbean, and New York, focused on digital design, sustainability, and climate-intelligent buildings.

In the UK and Ireland, Barry is Co-Founder and Director of Packaging Holdings, a group of eleven sustainable packaging businesses employing over 300 people across the UK and Ireland.

United States

In the United States, Barry is a Director and investor in Hammock Greens, a Miami-based urban agriculture company applying advanced hydroponic and vertical-farming technologies. He also acts as European M&A advisor to ProAmpac, a US-headquartered global flexible packaging company.

Previous Experience & Education

Barry previously served as CEO of Digicel Jamaica and the Eastern Caribbean whilst heading up M&A for the Group. Prior to his he was the co-founder and CEO of Vero Solutions which became TheNowFactory before being sold and integrated into IBM.

He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from University College Cork, a Diploma in Business Administration from the College of Ireland, and a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors. He is Chartered Board Director.
