Barry O’Brien is a serial entrepreneur, investor and business leader whose career spans the Caribbean, Ireland, the UK and the United States. He has founded, led, invested in and chaired businesses operating across investment, renewable energy, financial services, infrastructure, technology and packaging.

Alongside his commercial roles, Barry serves as Honorary Consul of Jamaica to Ireland, supporting diplomatic relations and the development of bilateral trade and investment between the two countries.

Caribbean and International Roles

Barry is Co-Founder and CEO of Williams Caribbean Capital, an investment platform focused on renewable-energy infrastructure and private-investment opportunities across the Caribbean. Through Williams Renewable Energy Limited, the business has financed commercial and utility-scale solar PV projects using internationally certified green bonds.

He is also Co-Founder and Chairman of SCG Growth Partners, the financial-technology company behind the ApplyOn digital platform, and Chairman of GlobaPay, a Barbados-based digital payments and customer-engagement business.

Barry is a director and shareholder of VIP Attractions, which operates premium airport lounges and tourism-media assets in Jamaica. He is also a co-founder and shareholder of BCDL, a Barbados-based investment vehicle and strategic partner in General Accident Insurance Company (Barbados) Limited.

 

Ireland and the UK

In Ireland, Barry is Chairman and Co-Founder of GIG Capital Partners, a privately owned investment company established by members of Grattan Investment Group.

He was a co-owner and Chairman of ACEL Energy, an engineering-led renewable-energy company delivering commercial solar PV, battery-storage and demand-management solutions. ACEL Energy was sold to Entegro, part of the France-based Kyntus Group, in June 2026.

Barry chairs the Advisory Board of ARGO Development Studio, an international architectural and digital-construction practice specialising in Building Information Modelling, sustainability and climate-intelligent buildings.

He is also Co-Founder and a Director of Packaging Holdings, a group of ten sustainable packaging businesses employing more than 300 people across Ireland and the UK.

 

United States

In the United States, Barry is a director and investor in Hammock Greens, a Miami-based urban-agriculture company applying advanced hydroponic and vertical-farming technologies.

He also acts as European M&A adviser to ProAmpac, a US-headquartered global manufacturer of flexible and sustainable packaging.

 

Previous Experience and Education

Barry previously served as CEO of Digicel Jamaica and the Eastern Caribbean and held group-level responsibility for mergers and acquisitions. Earlier in his career, he co-founded and led Vero Solutions, which became The Now Factory and was subsequently acquired and integrated into IBM.

Barry holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from University College Cork, a Diploma in Business Administration from the National College of Ireland and a Diploma in Company Direction from the Institute of Directors. He is a Chartered Director.
