CEO Partner
Founders Helping Founders
Do you work in utilities, renewables or telecoms and know a small supplier that could be a much bigger player? Or do you have a business idea in the sector you've always wanted to build, but couldn't justify giving up the security of a full-time role?
Grattan Investment Group ("GIG") is looking for an experienced executive with the ambition and ability to build and lead a new business in the utilities, renewable energy, or water/wastewater sector.
For the right candidate, with a credible business opportunity, GIG will provide the financial backing, strategic support and an initial two-year funding runway required to establish the business.
This is not a conventional CEO vacancy. GIG is looking to invest in you.
Two Routes In
This isn't only about starting something brand new. If you already know a small supplier, subcontractor or business in the sector that you believe could be scaled significantly with the right backing, that's just as much what we're looking for.
-
Start clean: build a new business from the ground up around a market opportunity you've identified.
-
Scale a supplier you know: bring in a small supplier or subcontractor you already have a relationship with and believe has real potential to become a much bigger player, and lead its growth.
The Opportunity
-
Role: Founder & CEO of a new or scaled-up business
-
Sector: Utilities, renewable energy, and water/wastewater — power, grid infrastructure, energy transition, water treatment and network infrastructure, or a specialist supplier/contractor serving these markets
-
Salary: €10,000 per month (€120,000 per annum) for the first two years
-
Bonus: Up to 25% of net profit, subject to agreed terms
-
Equity: Opportunity to own up to 40% of the business, with the Founder/CEO contributing approximately 10% of the initial equity capital invested
-
Funding: GIG investors to provide the balance of the agreed start-up capital
-
Support: Active strategic and commercial support from experienced GIG founders, CEOs and investors
-
Governance: Monthly Board meetings with participating GIG members
We are interested in experienced individuals who:
-
Have strong commercial, operational, technical or industry expertise in utilities, renewables or water/wastewater
-
Have demonstrated leadership ability
-
Understand a market, sector or customer problem where they see a credible business opportunity
-
Know a small supplier, subcontractor or business in the sector that they believe has real potential to scale significantly
-
Are prepared to commit full-time to building the business
-
Have entrepreneurial ambition but may have been reluctant to give up the financial security of mortgage and other commitments
-
Can bring an existing supplier relationship, customer base, or sector network with them
Candidates may already have a developed business idea, or simply have deep sector expertise and an opportunity — new or existing — they believe could be turned into a successful company.
Founders Helping Founders
GIG is a group of business founders and former CEOs who invest their own capital in start-up and established businesses where their experience, skills and networks can help create value.
GIG members previously backed an experienced executive who left an established career to build renewable-energy start-up Acel Energy — bringing in a supplier relationship he knew and believed could scale. Within approximately three years, Acel was successfully sold to a company within a French multinational group, generating significant value for its founders and investors.
